How to get your hotel into Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode
Updated By Akkrev
How Google's AI picks hotels, why AI Mode cites Google's own pages almost every time, and what hotels and B&Bs can check on Google, their site and reviews.
Key points
- Google says there are no special requirements for AI Overviews or AI Mode. Your pages must be indexed and eligible to show a snippet.
- For hotel searches, Google's AI Mode cited Google's own pages 99.7% of the time. Your Google Business Profile and Google Hotels listing are the main lever.
- AI Overviews often don't appear for 'hotels near me' searches. In one study they showed up in only about half.
- AI Mode named the hotel in 64.5% of searches, more often than Google Maps did.
- Hotels with more reviews were named far more often across Google's AI and ChatGPT.
- 1

To get your hotel into Google’s AI Overviews and AI Mode, make sure your website is indexed and eligible to show a snippet in normal Google Search, then make your Google Business Profile and Google Hotels listing as complete and accurate as you can. Google says there is no special markup or file needed. In the US hotel searches sampled below, Google AI Mode cited Google pages frequently. Check your Business Profile and rates alongside your own indexable pages.
AI Overviews vs AI Mode for hotels
- AI Overviews are the AI summaries at the top of a normal Google search. Google decides when to show one.
- AI Mode is the conversational search tab. Guests type longer questions like “quiet hotel in the Lake District with a pool, dog-friendly, under £200”.
Local Falcon ran 66,240 AI searches for 998 US hotels in 2026. The results show why both need different expectations:
| Google surface | Named the hotel | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| AI Mode | 64.5% | Cited Google’s own pages 99.7% of the time |
| Google Maps | 56.4% | Classic local results |
| AI Overviews | 10.4% | No AI Overview appeared in about half of searches |
For many hotel searches, AI Mode and Maps decide more than AI Overviews do.
What Google says you need
Google’s own guidance for AI features is short:
- There are no additional requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode.
- There is no special structured data to add, and no AI text files needed.
- A page must be indexed and eligible to show a snippet in normal Search.
- Check that your Business Profile information is up to date.
So the foundations are ordinary good practice, done thoroughly.
What to check, in order
1. Google Business Profile
- The right primary category, such as “Hotel”, “Bed & breakfast” or “Inn”.
- Every amenity Google lets you tick: parking, pets, pool, accessibility, breakfast, EV charging.
- Accurate check-in and check-out times and contact details.
- Recent photos of rooms, public spaces and the outside.
- Replies to reviews, especially where a guest gets a fact wrong.
2. Google Hotels and free booking links
Google Hotels shows prices from booking sites and, if connected, from you. Free booking links let your own rate appear next to the OTAs at no cost. Most booking engines and channel managers can connect them. See free booking links.
3. Your website
- Make sure key pages are indexed in Google Search Console.
- Describe each room type, location, parking, pets, accessibility and policies in plain text, not only inside the booking engine.
- Mention the places guests ask about: the nearby station, venue, beach or walk.
- Don’t block Google with nosnippet tags or robots rules on pages you want used.
4. Reviews
In the same study, hotels with more Google reviews were named far more often. ChatGPT named 52.1% of hotels with fewer than 50 Google reviews and 83.8% of those with 2,500 or more, and Google Maps showed the same pattern. Invite honest reviews consistently and follow Google’s review policy.
5. Mentions beyond Google
Google’s AI Overviews for broader questions, like “best boutique hotels in Edinburgh”, also draw on travel guides, newspapers and “best of” lists. Being included in those helps across every AI, not only Google.
Expect fewer clicks, not fewer bookings
When an AI Overview appears, the top normal result gets about 58% fewer clicks, according to Ahrefs. Google says the clicks that do come are higher quality and stay longer. So track bookings and enquiries alongside website visits, and check Search Console’s AI features reporting where available.
How to check where you stand
Search the questions your guests ask in Google and in AI Mode, logged out, from your area if you can. Note whether you are named, and whether Google links your site, your Google profile or an OTA. Then compare with how ChatGPT recommends hotels, because ChatGPT reads different sources.
Akkrev tracks your hotel’s guest questions every week across ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Grok models and shows which sources each answer uses. See plans or AI SEO for hotels.
Questions
How do I get my hotel in Google AI Overviews?
Make sure your pages are indexed and can show a snippet in normal Google Search, keep your Google Business Profile complete and accurate, connect free booking links in Google Hotels and describe the details guests ask about in plain text on your website. Google says no special markup or files are needed.
Why doesn't an AI Overview show for my hotel searches?
Google decides when to show one. For 'best hotel near me' style searches, Local Falcon found an AI Overview appeared in only about half of searches. Google AI Mode and Maps are often more important for hotels.
Does my hotel need special schema for Google's AI?
No. Google says there is no special structured data required for AI features. Ordinary structured data that matches what your page shows is still useful for search in general.
Do clicks from AI Overviews convert?
Google says clicks from results pages with AI Overviews are higher quality and visitors tend to spend more time on the site. Fewer people click overall, so judge success by bookings rather than visits.
