# How do gastropubs get recommended by AI?

> How gastropubs and pubs with good food get named when people ask ChatGPT or Google AI for Sunday lunch, dog-friendly pubs or pubs with rooms.

Gastropubs get recommended by AI when they are described clearly as a place to eat, not just drink, with the menu, Sunday lunch times, dog policy and garden spelled out. AI names pubs whose food is backed up by reviews, guides and local press.

Gastropubs sit between two kinds of AI question: where to eat, and where to go for a drink. AI names the ones described clearly as both, with the food front and centre.

## What people ask AI

- "Best gastropub in the Cotswolds for Sunday lunch?"
- "Dog-friendly pub with good food near Richmond?"
- "Pub with a beer garden and a kids' menu in Bristol?"
- "Country pub with rooms and a great menu in Yorkshire?"

## Where AI gets its answers

- **Google Business Profile.** "Gastropub" or "Pub" plus a restaurant category, food hours, garden and dog attributes.
- **Food guides.** The Good Food Guide, the Michelin Guide's Bib Gourmands and regional pub guides.
- **Reviews.** Mentions of the roast, the garden, the fire, the dogs.
- **Your website.** A menu in text, food service times and booking.

## What decides who gets named

- **Food hours stated separately** from bar hours. AI often gets this wrong.
- **Being known for a dish or occasion**, like the Sunday roast or a garden in summer.
- **Dog and family policies** in plain words.
- **Coverage in pub and food guides** for your region.

## How to check

## Questions

### Is a gastropub a restaurant or a pub to AI?

Both, if you describe it that way. Use categories and descriptions that cover food and drink, and list food service hours.

### Do pub guides still matter?

Yes. Editorial pub and food guides are among the sources AI quotes for "best pub" questions.
